A Study Break at Machu Picchu

Smiths at Machu Picchu

This past weekend, we went to the world-renown Machu Picchu. It was a great break from the rigours of language acquisition. We took a train at night and when we arrived at Aguas Calientes it was pitch black. When we woke up the next morning we had no idea that we were surrounded by some of the most breath taking mountains we've seen in our life. Psalm 19:1-2 came to mind...

"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their measuring line goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world." (ESV)

Surely God's voice has been heard in general revelation by all who came to see its beauty. Nothing I've seen more clearly tells of God's transcendent power and majesty. Perhaps that's why Machu Picchu has more visitors than Cairo, Egypt each year.

Here are some pictures from our trip:

Since there were drop offs everywhere with no railing, it was a job looking after the girls! We found one place where there were walls all around, so the girls could run in safty. Click here to see a video.

In two weeks from today, we will be heading back to Trujillo. We are very ready to live in our own home. Its been nearly five months now that we have been living out of suitcases and we're ready to get more settled. Please also remember Peru's upcoming presidential elections next week (April 9th). The two top candidates will have a run off at the beginning of May. I'll post a blog after the candidates have been narrowed down.

I enjoyed the "Rest" video and watching Sandi try to get some rest. What a beautiful place to rest in too. May God keep you in his place of perfect peace.
