They Finally Tied the Knot

Today we attended the wedding of Ronald Rojas and his girlfriend Alicia. Ronald is a taxi cab driver here in Trujillo that we have befriended through many conversations in the taxi on the way to church each Sunday morning. He and his family (they have three children, the youngest named Sandi Allen :-) began attending our Arevalo church plant over a year ago and through much discipleship was lead to Christ and later lead to the conviction to marry his wife.

Just a side note, I thought it was sweet that Alicia wore a red dress now that she is officially a "Rojas" (red in spanish). Mary Allen also came along with us and enjoyed her first wedding. Her chubby cheeks and big blue eyes are always a hit with our peruvian friends.

Christopher Columbus and Chicha Morada

Today at the girl's preschool they celebrated "El Dia de las Americas" or "Columbus Day". Abigail and Adeline both were queens in the play. I think since every girl in the class wanted to be the Queen of Spain, there were several Queen Isabellas:-)

After the play we celebrated by eating empanadas and drinking chicha morada. Chicha morada is made from black or purple maize (corn) boiled with pineapple and spices and is one of Peru's favorite drinks. You can see from her purple mustache that it is one of Adeline's favorite drinks too.

I will have to mention that shortly after I took the picture of Adeline and her mustache, she spilled her full glass of Chicha morada all over Mary Allen (3 1/2 months old now) who was sitting in my lap, so Mary Allen left the event very purple and sticky. It would have been a good picture, but I was just trying to gather up my sticky kids and get out the door before we caused another scene!

Mary Allen's Baptism

This past Sunday we had the privilege to witness the baptism of Mary Allen. Many who read this post do not come from presbyterian convictions, so I thought it would be good to include the vows we took concerning our covenant daughter.
  1. Do you as parents of this young girl, newly accept the covenant of grace, believing that is also for your daughter?
  2. Do you believe you are sinners and that your daughter has inherited a sinful nature?
  3. Do you believe that the Holy Spirit is the only one who can regenerate and sanctify man?
  4. With the help of the Triune God, whose name we baptism your daughter, do you promise to show her a Christian example and instruct her in the knowledge and obedience of the Word of God, insuring that she grow and live conforming to the instructions of the Word of God?
  5. Under the terms of this covenant of grace, do you promise that when your daughter is at a sufficient age, you will help her understand that she has a privilege and holy duty to confess publicly her faith in Christ Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior.

Please join us in praying for Mary Allen that the promises offered to her in the covenant of grace would all come true.

New Seminary Semester Begins

A new semester is underway at Seminario Biblico Reformado (Reformed Biblical Seminary) in Trujillo. A special Convocation Service was held on Sunday evening, September 30, 2007, to inaugurate the new semester. All of the professors, as well as 2 alumni, participated in the uplifting service at Larco Presbyterian Church. Allen will be teaching Hebrew 1. Please pray that God will rise up a new army of equipped church planters!
