BIG Blues

We were blessed to have the very talented Ava Barnes do a photo shoot in our backyard while she visited Peru. Here are a few favorite face pics of our three blue eyed girls. Thanks Ava!

Introducing the Clementina Chapel

This is Clementina a little shanty town on the outskirts of Wichanzao, one of our target neighborhood. These folks have been inhabiting (or squatting) on this desert land for about 8 months. They come from different parts of Peru in hopes of finding work or having a new start. Here are some of the faces of Clementina.

In February, we had a medical team from Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN come to do a mobil medical clinic targeting this area. This medical clinic opened the door for some of our seminary students, Percy and Jose, to begin doing pastoral visitation in hopes of forming a church plant. After several months of visitations, the community decided to designate a piece of land for a chapel. Our Wichanzao church raised money to construct a thatch chapel and several weeks ago they had the inauguration service to dedicate this new chapel. The first Sunday service, led by Jose, was held this past Sunday with about 25 of the locals in attendance. We look forward to seeing what God does in Clementina. Below is a picture of the newly constructed thatch chapel and a typical house in the community.

This week we have a short-term team from Redeemer Church in Austin, TX here with us. With the help of some of our Wichanzao brethren, they are conducting a VBS for the children of Clementina. Here are some pictures from the VBS.

Please pray for the people of Clementina that they would be receptive to the gospel and that their hearts would be open to Jesus Christ.

Proud Parents

This past 6 months there have been many exciting first for our 5 year old, Abigail. She has learned how to read and is now reading books on her own. Allen and one of her Peruvian friends, Leon, taught her how to ride a bike without training wheels. And she also started taking tennis lessons, which she loves. Here are some action shots:

Please pray for our short-term teams

We are at the beginning of our short-term team season. We are blessed to have many groups lined up to come down. Please pray for the medical doctors, dentist, construction workers, scientist, professors, pastors, deacons, mothers and youth all preparing to come down to serve our mission this year. Please pray for Allen as he serves as short-term team director and also continues his other ministries.

This week we had the privilege of having three gentlemen from Virginia here with us. Dr. David Doughty (middle) of Christopher Newport University and his colleague, Dr. Gary Whiting (left) served our university ministry by delivering a series of lectures on faith, science, & biology to two large universities in Trujillo (La Universidad Nacional de Trujillo and La Universidad Cesar Vallejo). Dr. David Davis (right), an emergency room doctor, attended patients in our medical clinic. Thank you doctors for coming down to serve!

Saying goodbye to the Baker Family

The end of May we sadly said goodbye to the Baker family. After their second term in Peru, they are headed back to the U.S. for a year of Home Mission Assignment and also to get their oldest child, Lauren, settled in college. Please pray for their year in the U.S. and for Lauren as she transitions not only to U.S. culture, but also begins college.

Below is a picture from the Baker's farewell party. As a "gift" to the Baker family, Allen wrote and played a song "We're Goin' Miss the Bakers". I (Sandi) accompanied Allen by playing the harmonica, rain stick and shaker (yes, this was my very first performance with all three of these instruments). I will be uploading the Mp3 of the sound soon, so stay tuned. . .
Abbie and Adeline with the youngest Bakers, Millie and Olivia, whom they will miss dearly.
